To drink, Portugal is wine country, yes the retreats are health based but there will still be the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine with meals!
We have handpicked a sublime property. With natural scenery, private pools, comfortable beds as sleep is also important to help feel rested, quiet locations. The property is a private gated estate set in the Portuguese mountains offering a friendly, laid back and family feel. The house is within one hour of Porto airport.
Portugal, as a whole, is amongst the sunniest areas in Europe with 2500-3200 hours of sunshine a year. Chia Retreats run retreats from May to October.
In northern Portugal, the protected national park of Geres spans an area where human activity and nature are harmoniously integrated, preserving ancient values and traditions. Farming traditions and rural customs continue where people still live in close harmony with nature and their surroundings.
Lush vegetation in all shades of green include a forest of holly and the endemic species of the Geres lily. The park is teaming with wild flowers and lined with vines and olives. Rivers and streams flow through the high mountain granite ridges and carve through wooded valleys rushing down in thundering waterfalls and spreading out to reservoirs, sparkling clean and refreshing clear, cool pools and deep ravines. The rare and impressive beauty of its landscape, ecological value and its fauna and flora result in a landscape which is truly breathtaking.
“Let the sea set you free.” The Portuguese coast is extensive, measuring approximately 943 kilometres. The “Green coast” in the northern Minho region extends from the Spanish border to Porto and is characterised by wild beaches that are popular with surfers and windsurfers.
Valley and Wine
“Let there be wine.” Vinho Verde is the biggest wine region of Portugal, up in the north west. The vines grow in fertile, granite soils along rivers that flow from the mountains of the east to burst out into the ocean between golden surfing beaches.
Douro is one of the wildest, most mountainous and rugged wine regions of Portugal, cut through in deep twists and turns by the River Douro. Almond and mimosa trees line the terraces. In this Wine Region you can savour the atmosphere of nostalgia, contemplate amazing viticulture landscapes, listen to the whispering wind in the vineyards and quench yourself with odours and scents of the earth, mountains and valleys. The Douro Wine Region, the oldest Quality Wine Producing Region (QWPR) in the world was considered, in March 2010,the World’s 7th Best Sustainable Tourism Destination by National Geographic.
“Everything you can imagine is real.” An enchantingly diverse country filled with gorgeous beaches, rolling hills, dramatic mountain scenery and a myriad of charming towns. Portugal is brimming with
beauty, both in its natural and urban spaces.
“Lets find some beautiful place to get lost” Arriving in Porto is a delight in itself, it is the second largest city in Portugal and has a unique charm and fascinating culture. Colourful buildings jostle for space among baroque mansions and crumbling medieval churches. Another UNESCO World Heritage site with beautiful period buildings, winding narrow streets overlooking a picturesque riverfront, adding a touch of romance to the ancient city.
Don’t forget to smile
In todays World we all feel pressure in many different ways, we know how to relax, unwind and be kind to ourselves but doing this can often be a struggle. That’s why it’s important to really connect with yourself – mind, body and spirit. The mind, body and spirit are all connected and key to your having true personal wellness success. It has been said by one study that; “Wellness’ philosophy is a state of mindfulness and awareness on leading a fulfilling healthy and growth in our life. It enables a person’s good sense of
positiveness, happiness and active living, that significantly contributes to the society.
One way to connect your mind, body and spirit is through the practice of yoga. The main philosophy of yoga is simple: mind, body and spirit are all one and cannot be clearly separated. Yoga in its basic form is a physical, mental and spiritual practice, which aids in shifting gears of the body and the mind into a positive direction. Practicing yoga can enhance the mood of a person. Breath is an indicator of mood. Yoga is all about changing the breathing patterns and inhaling and exhaling in rhythm with the postures. Breathing in patterns can lift up the mood of a person.
“Namaste. My soul honors your soul. I honor the place in you where the entire universe resides. I honor the light, love, truth, beauty and peace within you because it is also within me. In sharing these things we are united, we are the same, we are one.”
